The ‘secret’ is an ultra-soft high-tech gel pad in its base, which under pressure behaves almost like a liquid. According to the physics of hydrostatics the
pressure inside the gel pad must be equal over all surfaces in all situations.
When pressed into the portafilter the gel will therefore ‘flow’ to the weak spots
in your coffee grounds and will guarantee equal pressure over the whole surface of the puck. The coffee is compressed to equal density everywhere, ensuring even and balanced extraction.
This works with all forms of filter baskets and without need of time-consuming
extra steps in your coffee preparation. You can simply press the idroprep onto
